A UK undergraduate education gives you the ultimate opportunity to immerse
yourself in a subject that fascinates you. Even if you're a long way from the
institution's main campus, you'll still be able to lose yourself in your
studies. You'll learn to think for yourself and to work independently, picking
up a variety of skills that will be invaluable long after your course has
finished. It'll be an experience that will set you up for the rest of your life.
You'll be joining more than 200,000 other students across the world who are
working towards a UK higher education qualification and 500,000 overseas
students who are taking professional qualifications. Isn't it about time you
joined them?
What qualifications will I need?
The qualifications you'll need to study for a UK qualification in your own
country are broadly similar to those you'd need if you were coming to study in
the UK. Institutions aren't going to drop their standards just because you'll be
studying outside the UK.
Institutions may be flexible, and may be prepared to take into account
relevant work experience. You can find more information on entry qualifications
by following the links below:
What sorts of courses are available?
Undergraduate courses
You can study for an HND, Foundation Degree or degree in your own country from a
choice of thousands available.
International Foundation and pre-master's programmes
International foundation year courses and pre-master's courses will help you to
improve your language skills and academic scores if you don't yet quite meet UK
entry requirements. You can sometimes study part, or even the entire course in
your own country.
Postgraduate courses As many postgraduate courses consist entirely of research, they're
particularly easy to study in your own country.
Professional courses
If we tell you that more than half a million students are currently studying for
UK qualifications outside of the UK, you'll have an idea of just how recognised
and respected they are. Many qualifications are available by e-learning, and may
also be delivered through local providers.
How much will it cost?
Studying for a UK qualification in your own country will almost certainly
cost you less than it would to study in the UK for three years, but there will
be no compromising on quality. Qualifications studied at a distance have to
maintain the standards applied to equivalent full-time courses at UK
institutions, so you can be sure that the decision you make won't cost you your
future. Costs will vary widely from course to course, and you can find more
information on the individual course profiles.
How will I know if I've chosen a good course?
A number of measures are in place to ensure that UK qualifications studied in
your own country are of the same high standards as those delivered in the UK.
When choosing a programme, check the status given to UK qualifications
achieved through learning in your own country, by both public and private sector
employers.
You should also check that your qualification is recognised by the
appropriate quality assurance body in the UK. If in doubt contact your local
British Council office.
To be sure that your qualification will be recognised in your home country,
always choose a course that leads to a recognised UK qualification within the
National Qualifications Framework.
The Open and Distance Learning Quality Council (ODL
QC).
The ODL QC runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for colleges that offer open
and distance learning courses. The majority of ODL QC members are private
training providers; some are further education colleges. However, the ODL QC
does not accredit or validate curriculum, academic standards or awards so it's
important to look carefully at the awarding body for the final award.
